Steven McMyler s death was likely caused by a heavy kick to his head, a jury has heard.
The 34-year-old joiner from Marsh Green died after he was found with serious injuries in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church on August 6 last year.
Prosecutors allege that he was attacked by a group of young men who were trying to rob him and take his Rolex watch.

The trial of four people accused of murdering a man during an alleged attempt to steal his Rolex in a Wigan church grounds continues today (April 21).
Steven McMyler, 34,, a joiner from Marsh Green, was found in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church with serious injuries on August 6 last year. He died at the scene.
A 14-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy both from Merseyside who cannot be named, Michael Callam Wilson, 20, of Kirkby and Lewis Peake, 21, of Little Lever are on trial at Manchester Crown Court.
