State College New York Times Best Selling Author and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Scott Weidensaul will be the guest speaker at the third annual Pennsylvania Wildlife Gala held at the Wyndham Garden, State College on Friday, May 21, 2021. The Pennsylvania Wildlife Gala is the largest fundraiser for the Wildlife for Everyone Foundation, the conservation-focused organization based in State College. Weidensaul’s latest book, A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds, was released at the end of March and landed on the New York Times Bestseller list in the category of Biology of Wildlife.

April is the start of one of the best times of year in the U.P. There are no mosquitos or black flies out, and just a few ticks on the prowl on the select warm days. New migrant birds slip into the area periodically, slowed recently by the occasional freezing temperatures and snowfalls. Last weekend a number of moderately sized flocks, up to 100 or so, cruised over Marquette on their way to Canada.
