Delivery of more than 12,000 COVID vaccine doses delayed to Rhode Island vaccination facilities

Three community coronavirus vaccination locations in Rhode Island are rescheduling appointments because harsh winter weather in some areas of the country delayed the delivery of more than 12,000 doses to the state, health officials say.
Because the shipment of approximately 12,400 doses of the Moderna vaccine did not arrive in Rhode Island as scheduled on Monday, clinics at the Cranston Senior Center, the Swift Community Center in East Greenwich, and the West Warwick Civic Center are rescheduling Tuesday appointments, the state Department of Health said in a statement.

Rhode Island officials are blaming the weather in Texas for the need to cancel community clinics despite the state having approximately 40,000 doses that have been unadministered.
Rhode Island contniues to be one of the last ranked states for use of its vaccine, and is now ranked third for both cases and deaths per capita.
“There is not enough Moderna vaccine in the state’s control for a clinic without this 12,000 dose shipment,” said Wendelken.
