Civic bodies net ₹101 crore through Early Bird scheme

The ‘Early Bird’ scheme of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department where 5% discount is available for property owners paying the tax for the current financial year before the month-end has earned ₹101 crore so far.
Director of Municipal Administration N. Satyanarayana said on Saturday that the property tax revenue was accrued from 129 municipalities and 12 municipal corporations. While the scheme was originally scheduled to end by April-end, the government has decided to extend the offer by a month considering the prevailing COVID situation across the State.
There are about 14.05 lakh properties across the 141 corporations and municipalities in TS eligible for the ‘Early Bird’ offer and about 2.29 lakh property owners or about 22% of them had benefited by the scheme by about ₹5.1 crore. The response was the best from Warangal Municipal Corporation wher

Hyderabad, May 3 : Telangana s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) swept the municipal elections, capturing five urban local bodies and was leading in two others.
Greater Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporations and five municipalities had gone to polls on April 30.
The TRS has captured Siddipet, Kothur, Nakrekal, Atchampet and Jadcherla municipalities and was leading in both the corporations.
In Siddipet, the TRS has bagged 32 seats while results have been declared for 34 out of 43 wards. The BJP and others won a seat each.

Hyderabad, April 25 : The April 30 election to seven urban local bodies in Telangana is drawing more attention for being conducted amid an intense second wave of Covid-19 pandemic than the contest among political parties.
Despite the demands by opposition parties to postpone the polls in view of the massive surge in Covid cases across the state, the State Election Commission (SEC) is going ahead with the conduct of the polls as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is not in favour of deferring the elections.
