A Parkdale woman who has called the same place home for more than 30 years and lives on disability says if she and her son are evicted, they will have no place to go. Building management says the tenant is unable to maintain safety standards, but neighbours who are supporting her dispute that.

Eviction Enforcement Resumes in Three Eastern Ontario Regions Starting Wednesday
February 9th 2021- Victoria Gibson of the Toronto Star for the Local Journalism Initiative reports that eviction enforcement can resume in three regions of eastern Ontario on Wednesday, with the Ford government eyeing restart dates for the rest of the province in the next two weeks.
The eviction halt was initially tied to Ontario’s state of emergency, which will end Tuesday night for three counties. According to the Star s reporter, as of Monday, the halt on eviction enforcement will last as long as any region is under a stay-at-home order. That order is set to end in Hastings-Prince Edward; Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington; and Renfrew County and District on Feb. 10.

During the pandemic, Toronto renters have been fighting for rent relief in the face of lost jobs and income, and an eviction ban.
But with Toronto in a second lockdown and many tenants still out of a job, the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) has begun, as one adjudicator put it, an “eviction blitz.” Hearings last mere minutes and tenants who have no way to pay rent are handed eviction orders.
