World champion Cheruiyot, Qatar’s Musab to star in loaded 1500m in Doha Diamond League

Doha: World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot will return to the scene of his global triumph when he opens his season at the at the Wanda Doha Diamond League on Friday, May 28.
The 25-year-old Kenyan, who competed over 800m in last year’s Doha meeting, will relish the opportunity to return to his number one event and avenge his 2019 Diamond League performance where he finished second – his only defeat that year.
Adam Ali Musab, Qatar’s world-leading 1500m star and Stewart McSweyn, Australia’s 1500m national record holder, will also line up at the Qatar Sports Club.

Obiri, Gidey set for Doha showdown

World 5000m champion Hellen Obiri and world record holder Letesenbet Gidey will resume their rivalry as they line up over 3000m at the Wanda Doha Diamond League on May 28.
Obiri, 31, Olympic 5000m silver medallist in Rio 2016, is an experienced competitor with three world track titles dating back to 2012 (two outdoor, one indoor). She is also the reigning World Cross Country champion and Commonwealth Games champion over 5000m.
Gidey, silver medallist over 10,000m at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, is a prodigious young talent. A former world under-20 cross country champion (2015 and 2017), she finished third behind Obiri in the senior race at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships.
