State recognizes Capital Region Mental Health Commissioner

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State is honoring Katherine G. Alonge-Coons, the Rensselaer County Mental Health Commissioner, with the 2021 ‘What’s Great in our State’ Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement award is given annually to recognize professionals and volunteers who have shown a lifetime commitment to strengthening the mental health of children, youth, and families. It includes those who have worked in the development, administration, or delivery of mental health services. Alonge-Coons is being recognized for her career-long dedication to direct care, advocacy, and the oversight of programs for youth struggling with mental health issues. She began her career more than 30 years ago in Rensselaer County as a child and adolescent therapist and then moved into the newly formed Intensive Case Management Program (ICM).

Boyertown Area Multi-Service launches new Homelessness Task Force

Boyertown Area Multi-Service launched its new Homelessness Task Force thanks to a fundraising campaign with a matching donation from a local bank. During the month of March, the Multi-Service raised more than $14,000 through its Stronger Together Campaign. Ambler Savings Bank helped kick off the campaign by matching dollar-for-dollar every donation up to $5,000. Multi-Service teamed up with The United Way of Boyertown to prioritize homelessness as a critical need in the community by creating the Task Force to offer rapid response to those in crisis, the two organizations announced in a release. - Advertisement - Additionally, the Case Management Program has been revamped to reflect the needs of the community in regards to housing. This includes a 90 plus day program that stabilizes housing and addresses the barriers that created the issue in the first place.
