New farmers market offers produce, meat, crafts and more in Hope Mills

A new monthly farmers market opens this weekend in Hope Mills. The Market on Trade Street will be held the third Saturday of each month from May until October. The market will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce President Casey Ferris said the decision to hold the market on Saturday was made in deference to Dirtbag Ales, the Hope Mills brewery whose Sunday market is among the largest in the area.  Ferris said the market will help fill the void of the market run by the town s parks and recreation department, which hasn t returned from its 2019 season.

Some parents say that is not soon enough, especially in light of a report by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that says school reopening can be safe as long as certain conditions are met. Following are four letters from Cumberland County parents who shared their personal stores and have one message: Open schools now. - Myron B. Pitts, Opinion editor
