Wilmington police, New Hanover deputies involved in shooting

Wilmington police and New Hanover Sheriff s deputies were involved in a shooting incident Wednesday that ended with a suspect allegedly driving at a deputy before hitting a police vehicle. According to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington International Airport personnel encountered a suspicious man who tried to gain access to a secure area. The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was confronted by airport personnel who asked him to leave.  Around 5:01 p.m. police officers, who did not know of the airport incident, tried to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle committing a traffic offense. The driver refused to stop.

Instead, the officials brought out the victims’ grieving families and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward. In partnership with Crime Stoppers, the sheriff’s office announced a $3,000 reward for any tips that may lead to an arrest.
