BATA bus hijacked, involved in crash

KINGSLEY — A 24-year-old Luzerne man is in custody after he hijacked a Bay Area Transportation Authority bus, crashed into another vehicle Tuesday in Kingsley and injured a Manton woman. The Cadillac Michigan State Police Post reported that at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, the 24-year-old Luzerne man boarded the BATA bus at the Northland Food Grocery store in Kingsley bus stop and attempted to take the fire extinguisher out of its holder. The bus driver radioed for help. Fearing the man was going to strike him or spray him with the fire extinguisher, the bus driver exited the bus, according to police.

9 & 10 News May 4, 2021 A 24-year-old Luzerne man has been arrested after Michigan State Police say he hijacked a Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) bus at a bus stop in the Northland Food Grocery Store parking lot in Kingsley Tuesday morning. According to police, the man boarded the BATA bus and attempted to take the fire extinguisher out of its holder. The bus driver radioed for help and exited the bus. Police say the man the stole the bus and attempted to turn east bound on M-113 and was struck by a west bound passenger car driven by a Manton woman. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. The Manton woman suffered minor injuries and is seeking her own medial treatment.

As the driver was radioing for help, the man fled in the bus but was hit by a car as he was attempting to turn onto M-113.
