Strings on the Bay “Beethoven Bash” is happening on July 20
th
Strings on the Bay, the annual summer chamber music series at Bay de Noc Community College, continues at 7:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, July 20
th, at the First Presbyterian Church, 819 First Avenue South in Escanaba, MI. This performance is the second of three concerts this summer and features a trio from the Detroit area. The “Beethoven Bash” is a belated 250th birthday tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven that you won’t want to miss.
Joining music director and violinist, Paul Lundin, is Wayne State University piano professor, Robert Conway and Detroit free-lance cellist Chas Helge. Helge holds music degrees from Western Michigan, the University of Indiana and a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. Conway, also the staff pianist for the Detroit Symphony, has played for Strings on the Bay twice before and has been requested back by audience members. NORWAY The Norway-Vulcan Area School District has announced its top six graduates for 2021. They are: Jeffrey Van Holla, son of David and Julie Van Holla. During his time at Norway High School, he was a member of student council, Youth Advisory Committee and the National Honor Society. Van Holla participated in golf, basketball, cross country and track. He also is employed at Oak Crest Golf Course. He plans to major in business and finance at Michigan State University. Brandon Dishaw, son of Wade and Lesley Dishaw. At NHS, he was a member of the Youth Advisory Committee, Key Club, Student Council and Spanish Club. Outside of school, Dishaw is a member of the Badwater Ski-ters waterski team. He plans to major in pre-medicine at Michigan State University.

POWERS North Central Area Schools has announced the top seniors for the graduating Class of 2021: Valedictorian is Jaiden Fleetwood, daughter of Nathan and Sarah Fleetwood of Powers. She had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9559. Fleetwood has volunteered time with Community Project Day activities, PS Lions Club pasty and brat sales and tutoring. She has served as student council representative for her class for two years, Key Club one year and was elected treasurer for the National Honor Society for three years. Honors and awards she has received in high school include Academic Excellence Awards four years, Citizenship Award, All “A” honor roll four years, as well as various awards in English, math, science and history. Her extracurricular activities include three years of basketball and track. Her hobbies and free-time activities include spending time with family and friends, shopping, listening to music, watching Netflix and spending time outdoors.

Escanaba’s Bay de Noc Community College’s 2021 Presidential Honor Award was awarded to Emily Thibault.
Emily is a Liberal Arts major and will graduate this spring with an Associate Arts degree. She earned the award by maintaining a 3.50 cumulative GPA coupled with demonstration of outstanding leadership and active involvement both off and on campus.
Emily will continue at Bay de Noc while pursuing her Secondary Education Math Degree.
The Presidential Honor Award was established by the Bay de Noc Community College Foundation in July of 1997 in honor of Dr. Dwight E. Link, President Emeritus of Bay College.
