People are 20 times more likely to be infected when confined indoors.-Bernama
PETALING JAYA: To avoid getting infected, people have been advised to remain indoors. However, it is not necessarily the safer bet, especially if one chooses to spend time inside an air-conditioned room.
Research has shown people are 20 times more likely to be infected indoors than outdoors, under certain conditions. For instance, the strong airflow inside an air-conditioned room is likely to carry viruses across longer distances, and droplets that may be carrying the viruses remain airborne for longer periods.
Virologist Prof Dr Sandy Loh of University Nottingham Malaysia told theSun, studies have shown that large aerosols or small droplets can transmit disease-carrying viruses over two metres if there is strong airflow, as one would experience in an air-conditioned room.
