Rebuttal: Zoning reform is long overdue
In a March 24 opinion piece titled A plea for a hold on zoning reform, author Alexis Harrison of Fairfield attacked H.B. 6107 and (without naming it) S.B. 1024. As a fellow Fairfield County resident (from the neighboring town of Trumbull) who thinks zoning reform is one key to building a more prosperous and inclusive Connecticut, I’d like to counter its claims and make an argument of my own.

Yellow Springs is one of 16 small towns across the country and the only one in Ohio participating in a contest to see if it’s the “Strongest Town.”
The contest is meant to, “identify and celebrate cities across the United States and Canada that are prioritizing resilience, fiscal stability, local leadership and bottom-up action,” according to Lauren Fisher, a spokesman for Strong Towns.
“For the village, what’s appealing is that a lot of the themes in the Strong Towns speak to us as a community,” said village manager Josué Salmerón. “This is who we are.” ....

Carlisle is one of 20 municipal finalists chosen by the National Civic League in its 2021 All-America City contest. The borough is the first Pennsylvania finalist since 2018, and seeks to become the first winner of the All-America City designation since Lancaster was so honored in 2000.
Given to ten communities each year since 1949, the All-America City award celebrates the work of communities “in using inclusive civic engagement to address critical issues and create stronger connections among residents, businesses, and nonprofit and government leaders.”
The theme for 2021′s competition is “Building Equitable and Resilient Communities.” ....
