The mother-in-law of Class Action Reform Movement political leader and businessman Ricardo Phillip has died of covid19.
She is Tobago’s eighth covid19-related death.
Mathilda Craig, 86, who had comorbidities, died early on Wednesday at the Scarborough General Hospital.
Her funeral was held around noon that day at the Buccoo public cemetery, where her body was buried.
“We had a minister, and everything was done on spot,” Phillip told Newsday.
“My wife (Joanna) was there with her siblings and other relatives, and we were all scattered. But she had a lot of support.”
Tobago security guard dies from covid19
Tobago’s death toll from covid19 continues to rise.
On Thursday, the THA’s Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development said the island recorded its ninth covid19-related death, a 38-year-old man with comorbidities.
Newsday understands the man, an Airports Authority security guard, died at the Scarborough General Hospital on Wednesday. He was buried on Thursday.
The division, in a statement, reported there were 19 new covid19 cases in Tobago and 143 active cases.
It said ten people have been discharged.
Tobago now has 458 positive cases and 306 recovered patients.
A total of 5,592 people have been tested through the Tobago Regional Health Authority and other local sites.

EBC: PNM won THA election popular vote

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has confirmed that the People s National Movement (PNM) won the popular vote in Monday s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election. The party stunningly tied 6-6 with the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP).
PDP s political leader Watson Duke and deputy leader Farley Augustine have claimed their party won the popular vote and despite the tied result, should be allowed to govern the THA as they enjoyed the majority of support from the electorate.
