Monday evening, March 1, 2021 State Rental Assistance Applications Closed Until March 15 Applications for pandemic rental assistance will not be available in Utah for the next two weeks. The state’s Department of Workforce Services said the pause is to transition over to a different system that’s in line with federal guidelines. The new rules were released in February. Starting March 15, renters will be able to apply for funds through a single state-run online portal at rentrelief.utah.gov. Until now, people have had to go through local agencies. To get assistance, renters must qualify for unemployment, have reduced income and earn less than the median income of their area. Relief money can be used for current and past due rent and utilities. ....
KUER Utah Black History Museum has its grand opening on Feb. 27, 2020 outside the Leonardo Museum. Black Lives Matter Utah unveiled their Black History Museum Bus in Salt Lake City on Saturday. About 40 people braved the snowy morning and huddled outside the Leonardo Museum for the grand opening. The repurposed school bus is covered with colorful murals of African American artists, leaders and activists like Ruby Bridges, Jane Mannings James and Wallace Henry Thurman. The back of the bus includes a list of 115 Black people who were killed by police since 2010. One of those names is Bobby Duckworth, a Utah resident who was experiencing a mental health episode when he was shot and killed by police in 2019. ....
