The 2021 finalists have been announced for the prestigious Milward Simpson Award.
This honor is given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes in the state. It is considered the most prestigious award a prep athlete can earn in their high school career.
This year’s honor will be presented at a luncheon on June 19, 2021, in Cody, at the Cody Auditorium Club Room.

Gabby Drube, Thunder Basin High School
Lyman senior Joseph Turner is continuing his throwing career after recently signing with Utah State University for track and field.
Turner is the defending Class 3A state champion in the discus from his sophomore season in 2019. He had a throw of 164-8 to win the title two years ago. Turner lost his junior year of competition due to the pandemic.
In 2021, the Lyman senior has the top marks in the state, regardless of classification, in both throwing events.
His best toss in the discus is 182-5. That happened at the Highland Gold Baton Relays and Invitational in Pocatello, ID on April 15, 2021. It ranks him No. 22 in the nation, according to DyeStat.
Coaching Staffs Have Been Chosen for the 2021 Wyoming Shrine Bowl
Wyoming Shrine Bowl Executive Director Frank Selby released the information on Tuesday.
North Team head coach Matt McFadden, from Cody, chose Thunder Basin’s Trent Pikula, Cody’s Jim Talich, Kirk McLaughlin from Big Horn, Wright’s Larry Yeradi, and Zeb Hagen from Meeteetse to join his staff.
South Team head coach Brent Walk, from Mountain View, picked Paul Garcia from Cheyenne East, Wes Gamble of Douglas, Mountain View’s Michael Collins, Saratoga’s Logan Wright, and Jack Cobb from Little Snake River to be part of his coaching staff.
CHEYENNE â Wyoming Shrine Bowl Executive Director Frank Selby announced that the head coaches for the 48th annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl have been selected. Next yearâs game is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Dick Cheney Alumni Field in Casper.
Wyoming high school football coaches across the state nominate one coach from among their peers to serve in this role. From the nominations, one coach is elected from the North and one is elected from the South.
The North Team head coach is Matt McFadden of Cody High School. The South Team head coach is Brent Walk of Mountain View High School.
