STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN, CHILDREN AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION 27/04/2021 As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation will continue to support our people, our clients and our employees to access information and services.   The Fijian Government has implemented measures ranging from physical distancing, restrictions on the freedom of movement and the closure of non-essential service undertakings in lockdown zones throughout different parts of Fiji.     As part of this COVID-19 preventative measures, the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation wish to inform all recipients of the Social Assistance Programs under the Department of Social Welfare to contact them via Phone, Facebook Message or Email rather than visiting the Social Welfare Office.

Keeping domestic staff safe from criminals By Tanya Waterworth Share Durban - The safety of domestic workers came under the spotlight this week at a workshop held by the Bulwer Safety & Urban Regeneration Forum (BSurf) in partnership with SAPS Umbilo and National Security and Fire. As the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children drew to a close, domestic workers from Glenwood and Umbilo attended the workshop, which highlighted not only the risks faced by staff in their employers’ homes, but also on the way to and from work.
