Caleb on the Cardinals | Four Reasons Why Yadier Molina Is Guaranteed to be a Hall of Famer

This week, I went to a Cardinals game for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak, and I was able to see a lot of great players including Yadier Molina.  I definitely think Yadier Molina is a guaranteed Hall of Famer.  I have read that some people disagree with that opinion.  Here are four reasons which would easily prove those people wrong. (1)  Yadier Molina is easily one of the best defensive catchers ever.  Baseball Reference’s defensive WAR (Wins Against Replacement) has Yadier Molina second only to Ivan Rodriguez.  Yadier Molina’s career fielding percentage is 0.9948 which means that 99.48% of the time, Yadier Molina will not make an error.  Yadier Molina also has 9 Gold Gloves and the most Platinum Gloves of any player (4).

“Give him anything he wants.” Those were the words of wisdom John Mozeliak remembers Steve Turco offering to him more than 20 years ago about an 18-year-old Yadier Molina. At the time, Mozeliak was the Cardinals’ scouting director, and his department had just selected the catcher in the fourth round of the 2000 Draft out of Ladislao Martinez HS in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. The signing deadline was approaching, the allotted time to solidify an agreement with the younger brother of two big league catchers was running out, and Turco couldn’t fathom what was taking so long. “I remember having Steve Turco, our area scout in Florida at the time, see Yadi play in an American Legion tournament, and he called me after and said, ‘So, Mo, what’s the issue here?” said Mozeliak, now St. Louis’s president of baseball operations. “I told him he wanted more than slot, and I was trying to determine what dollars to put on him.”

Colorado Rockies news: The end of an era

Thank you, Nolan Arenado, for some of the greatest work in Rockies history. We’ll always remember the good times. We’ll remember the walk-off homer and a bloodied Arenado celebrating on Father’s Day. We’ll remember insane catches on tarps, Platinum Gloves being distributed on Opening Day and some of the best Rockies action ever (#NolanBeingNolan). Unfortunately, we will never see what his eight-year extension was meant to accomplish. The face of the franchise was unable to get what he was looking for in Colorado. We now watch from afar as he works toward baseball immortality in St. Louis. We are left to watch our beloved Arenado suit up in a new uniform, paying a visit to Denver once a year to the tune of thunderous Coors Field applause and a collective reflection by Rockies fans on what could have been. If eight years held true in Colorado like his 2019 extension was designed for, we had every reason to anticipate he would enter Cooperstown with a Rockies cap on his plaq
