Cabaret celebrating Black musical theatre opens 2021 Stratford Festival Tuesday Back to video A big Shakespearean production will not launch the Festival in 2021. Instead, a celebration of Black musical theatre directed and curated by singer and actor Marcus Nance will get the Festival underway on its 68th anniversary July 13. “I think it’s quite an honour,” Nance said Friday. “Especially after we’ve been through this emotional conversation about Black lives mattering, and about George Floyd, and about inclusion, I think it’s kind of a wonderful way to start out the season.”

Works will premiere gradually over the next two seasons, alongside TIFT s regular scope of programming. The Eternal Ego Festival will consist of works from the classical canon selected by key featured artists, and will include a live cabaret-style retelling of a Greek Satyr play infused with elements of music and dance, a virtual reality hybrid interpretation of a Virginia Woolf novel, a live-streamed take on a modernist classic with elements of puppetry and many more.

Stratford Festival outdoor summer season announced

NOW Magazine Stratford Festival outdoor summer season announced Six plays and five cabarets will be performed at two canopies this summer from June to September By Glenn Sumi Apr 7, 2021 This summer, Stratford will perform under canopies at the Festival Theatre (pictured) and the new Tom Patterson Theatre. Six plays and five cabarets are on the bill for Stratford Festival’s 2021 outdoor season, to be performed – pending health precautions – under canopies starting in late June. All the works share the theme of metamorphosis, which the festival’s artistic director, Antoni Cimolino, says is significant. “As butterflies shedding their cocoons, we are poised to emerge from this pandemic,” says Cimolino in a press release today.
