An apartment complex in northwestern Sioux Falls is one step closer to completion after the Sioux Falls City Council approved its rezoning plan at its Tuesday meeting.
The rezoning was one of two controversial items that passed at the meeting, after previously drawing heated discussion and ire from the public and councilors alike.
The plan, which passed 7-0 after Councilor Alex Jensen recused himself, rezones 18.94 acres near the intersection of West Benson Road and North Marion Road for the construction of eight apartment buildings and several villas.
The application is actually a downzone from the land s current zoning, which would allow for any usage, from single-family homes to a shopping center.
