More than four points will be on the line on Saturday when the North Mackay Saints clash with rival Mackay Magpies on Saturday at Zeolla Park.
The two Australian rules sides remain the last two undefeated teams in the Senior Men’s Allied Cup, with the Saints boasting a staggering 2977.78 per cent.
Despite being an early-season clash between the competition’s top sides, there is opportunity for both teams to take the ladder lead and bragging rights within Mackay.
North Mackay won its second consecutive premiership last season, with the Magpies having lost in the semi-final against Eastern Swans.
Finishing the day with a win and a loss, this year is full of potential for the young team as they look set to improve on last season.
The senior women played for the inaugural Barb Adamson pre-season Carnival Shield designed as a tribute to the Whitsunday Sea Eagles life member who tragically died last year.
In an all Townsville grand final, the Curra Swans out classed the Hermit Park Tigers for the win in the women’s competition.
The Whitsunday Sea Eagles senior women rejoined the AFLQ competition for the first time since 2018 with a new line-up of enthusiastic players.
From his pre-game ritual of a hotdog with no cheese and getting Stewart to strap his ankle, CD is the stuff of legend in Mackay. He was a real gentleman; good natured, Stewart said. The Saints clubhouse will be regaled with stories of the man from 6pm Thursday. Everyone who knew CD is invited to have a drink and swap stories. Mackay North Saints player Chris Dunbar. Photo Lee Constable / Daily Mercury Head of AFL Queensland Trisha Squires said CD made his mark on the game and his legacy would forever be remembered and treasured . On behalf of AFL Queensland, we send our love and support to the Dunbar family, the North Mackay Saints Football Club and the wider AFL Mackay football community, following the tragic passing of Chris CD Dunbar who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer overnight, she said.

At risk of hitting too many cliches, North Mackay forward Cameron Hill says the Saints’ start to pre-season is the best he’s seen since arriving at the club three years ago.
Considering the Saints have won the past two AFL Mackay A-Grade flags, going unbeaten in that time, it’s a high watermark to surpass. And yet Hill is adamant their best footy is yet to come.
He said the Saints have “had more numbers on the track so far than we’ve had in the past three years” and it’s no great secret why.
