The infamous “11-foot-8 bridge in Durham, North Carolina, has delivered far fewer hilarious crashes after it gained another eight inches in height, but that bridge isn’t the only low bridge looking for trucks to snack on.

The Reading Eagle reported on Tuesday that a truck driver tried and failed to squeeze his rig, hauling a shipping container, under an 11-foot, 7-inch rail bridge in Ontelaunee Township, Pennsylvania. For those of you counting, that’s an inch shorter than the bridge in Durham before it was raised.

How did the truck driver get things so wrong? According to police, the truck driver was following a GPS route and thought that the bridge clearance sign said 13-feet 6-inches, not 11-feet, 7-inches. Oops.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Northern Berks Regional Police Commission rescinded a previous vote to disband the department during a meeting Monday night in Ontelaunee Township building.

Representatives to the three-member commission from Ontelaunee and Leesport voted to disband, while Maidencreekâs representative opposed the move.
Mondayâs vote, which was unanimous, breathes new life into the troubled department.
In a surprise announcement, the police commission announced the Chief Brian Horner will retire in the next few months.
Sgt. Robert Wood Jr. has been named officer in charge during a transition of leadership.
Faced with the spring dissolution of the Northern Berks Regional force, Maidencreek Township supervisors have decided forming a new township police department is the best option for ensuring local coverage.
The board will begin interviewing candidates for the position of police chief next week, Township Manager Diane Hollenbach said this week.
The advertisement for the chiefâs position states the township of about 10,000 residents will create a department in early May with a staff of seven officers.

Maidencreek has a little more than three months to arrange local police coverage because Northern Berks Regional Police Department, headquartered at the Ontelaunee Township building, will cease to exist May 10.
