NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though scheduled prescribed burning in the Lake Tahoe Basin is finished for the season, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team has announced a 40-acre understory burn will be taking place at Burton Creek State Park starting May 5.
California State Parks is scheduled to conduct the prescribed burn, conditions, and weather permitting. Smoke may be visible. A map with the project location and detailed information is available for viewing at tahoelivingwithfire.com and can be found attached.
The area to be burned is north of Rocky Ridge, west of North Tahoe High School, near Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe s Northwest Shore. Duration of ignition and smoke production is estimated at one week with the smoke flowing to the northeast. Communities or smoke sensitive areas - Tahoe City, Lake Forest, North Tahoe High School.

Communities or Smoke Sensitive Areas: Smoke may be visible from Pioneer tr., Lake Tahoe Airport and US Hwy 50/SR 89 in the Meyers and Y areas.
Weather and conditions permitting, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (TFFT) will continue prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy, North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts are scheduled to burn hand piles and smoke may be visible.
