A National Reconciliation Week celebration at Bowen has showcased inspiring examples of collaboration between North Queenslandâs traditional landowners and business leaders.
An ongoing partnership between North Queensland Bulk Ports and Juru Enterprises Limited was the focus of the âReconciliation in Actionâ event, with the CEOs of both organisations sharing details of progress achieved to date, and how they planned to build on this into the future for the benefit of everyone involved.
NQBP CEO Nicolas Fertin highlighted improvements in the companyâs rate of employment of Indigenous Australians, spending with Indigenous-owned businesses, and ongoing land management and conservation projects designed around both environmental and cultural heritage protection.

Mackayâs night of nights for two incredible causes has raised more than $100,000 through generous auction bids and the regionâs business community stepping up to donate.
Billed as the biggest and best Mayorâs Charity Ball yet, the 422 people in attendance at the MECC Saturday night appear to have smashed previous fundraising goals with proceeds to be split between the Domestic Violence Resource Service and HeartKids Mackay.
The final tally of the nightâs fundraising amount is yet to be tallied, but organisers are confident it has eclipsed the 2019 total of $121,000.
Mayor Greg Williamson is ecstatic with the outcome.

Damen Shipyards Group has secured a contract for the supply of three Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tugs 3212 from Australian port operations provider Engage Marine.

Damen will supply the tugs in the third quarter of this year.
Engage Marine will deploy the tugs to provide towage services for the Port of Abbot Point.
This comes after Engage Marine recently received a non-exclusive towage licence from North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation.
