TASD Introduces New Learning Opportunities for 2021-2022 School Year Harmony Leadership Academy, North Heights Community School, and Digital Learning Academy. Seventh and eighth grade students recently moved from the North Heights Junior High campus into the new Arkansas Middle School. Sixth grade students will start the 2021-2022 school year on the Arkansas Middle School campus. “We are proud to provide these additional learning opportunities for students during the next year,” commented Superintendent Dr. Becky Kesler. “Our goal is to help each student reach his or her full potential, and I believe the opening of two new K-5 elementary schools and the K-12 digital learning school will aid in our ability to meet that objective as well as provide parents with additional options for their students.”

New Texarkana Arkansas Middle School Opens March 8 The excitement is building for North Heights Junior High students, teachers, and staff as they are just a few days away from moving into the new $26 million Arkansas Middle School building on Jefferson Avenue. Students and staff members are expected to move into the new school on Monday, March, 8. The new school will house sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students once in full operation, however, only seventh and eighth-grade students will be allowed to move in this semester while sixth graders will start the 2021-2022 school year on the new campus, according to a press release.

Three Teachers From Ashdown Schools Named 'Teachers of the Year'

On Monday, February 8 during the regular board meeting, three teachers from Ashdown Public Schools were recognized as being the 2020-2021 Teachers of the Year for their respective campuses. Shawnda Chester was selected by her peers as Teacher of the Year (TOY) for Ashdown Elementary, Jamie Fleming for Ashdown Junior High School, and Melanie McGraw for Ashdown High School. Shawnda Chester was selected as the Ashdown School District Teacher of the Year. After the announcement, she graciously thanked the board, administration, and her fellow TOY winners for all of their support over the years and how honored she was to be selected along with Ms. Fleming and Mrs. McGraw.
