The driving force of Mick Gosling’s life was the defence of working people’s rights and a commitment to socialism to achieve that.
Mick (James) Gosling grew up in Stevenage, in a left-leaning working-class family - his father had been involved in Michael Foot’s 1945 election campaign in Plymouth. Mick himself joined the LPYS at fourteen.
In 1970 he went to Kent University in the heady days of student radicalization when Kent was one of the hotspots, “Oxford, Essex, Kent unite, one struggle, one fight” is a fondly-remembered slogan. He soon joined the International Marxist Group. Friend and comrade Dave Wimhurst remembers “he was completely tireless in his efforts to support the battles of the day. Tribune, you are a breath of fresh air on the local Islington scene. Which said, your extensive coverage of the Jeremy Corbyn âissueâ is beginning to weary even me.
And Iâm an interested observer of our parish-pump politics. Lord knows how many of your other readers must be bored to tears.
Truth is, Corbyn was a disaster for our Labour Party. He screwed up the 2019 election big time.
Thus putting the arch-mountebank Boris Johnson and his incompetent cronies in a position to devastate both the handling of the Covid-19 crisis, and our departure from the European Union (an imminent disaster, on a possibly horrendous scale).
