Trinidad and Tobago’s acting High Commissioner to London Jenny Thompson will represent the country at Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral on Saturday at 3 pm, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
Though Thompson is acting high commissioner, Buckingham Palace agreed that she will represent the country in the capacity of Acting Defence Adviser at the funeral.
In an e-mail to Newsday, the British High Commission pointed out that Thompson will be the only woman and civilian involved in this way.
It said, “Reflecting His Royal Highness’ Commonwealth military-specific relationships, the defence attaches/advisers of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and TT will be positioned outside the chapel on the day of the funeral.

Tobago tour operators are fearing for the future of the tourism industry after the abrupt closure of the Asa Wright Nature Centre eco-lodge in Trinidad.
In a statement on January 18, the centre announced that with the continued closure of the borders and the limited physical movement as a result of covid19, its management decided to terminate its eco-lodge business.
Asa Wright Nature Centre, at Spring Hill Estate, Arima, comprises an eco-lodge and hotel. It is a world-renowned site, particularly of interest to nature seekers and bird watchers.
Waste Management called out on waterway contamination
Michelle Carmichael challenged Waste Management’s technical data.
Anti-landfill campaigner Michelle Carmichael opened her submission to an independent panel last week by saying that Waste Management had been dishonest about the potential threat of contamination caused by flood damage to its landfill.
Appearing at the resource consent hearing for a proposed landfill near Wayby Valley was the moment of truth for Ms Carmichael who has been mounting her protest since 2018. In her Fight The Tip Tiaki te Whenua submission, she threw all the law books she could at the panel, citing the Resource Management Act, Treaty of Waitangi, Ministry for Environment landfill criteria and the Auckland Unitary Plan.
