He might have a point. Around the time India became independent, the technology to turn coal into liquid fuel was in the news. Government of India showed interest in it. Foreign companies made pitches. Indian scientists made a plan. Then, nothing. This happened several times over the decades, and it’s only in recent years that talk of turning coal into petrol has died out. This is a story of official shortsightedness and lethargy.
