EAST PALESTINE Rufus Sandy Rodgers, 93, was called home to God, Friday, April 23, 2021, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born in Canton, on June 20, 1927, to John Edmund Churchill and Grace Sandy Rodgers, growing up with two younger sisters, Calista (Genre) and Nancy (Henceroth). His mother, Grace, died when he was 15; his father remarried Geraldine Allen, and they had his half-sister, Delta Lou.
Growing up, he pursued sports and music. In his teen years, he loved baseball and riding his bike, as evidenced by his legendary rides from Lorain, Ohio to Saint Louis to see numerous Major League games when he was 17. He was on the baseball and tennis varsity teams and played the drums in the high school band.

KENT, Ohio Local colleges and universities are starting to fire up their COVID-19 vaccine clinics this week and strongly encouraging their students to get vaccinated.
On Wednesday, Baldwin Wallace kicked off their clinic, with Bowling Green and Kent State set to open their vaccination sites on Thursday.
Most universities are giving out the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
So far only Cleveland State has said vaccines will be mandatory next fall for those living on campus.
Cheri Campbell, Lorain Public Library System Main Branch s adult services librarian, spoke during a Dec. 21 bill signing for House Bill 325 in the branch s Toni Morrison Reading Room. The bill dedicates Feb. 18 as Toni Morrison Day in Ohio.

Stammitti s wife, Mary Jo Stammitti, held the Bible while the sheriff was sworn-in.
This will be the sixth term for Stammitti which will start Jan. 4.

Her formerly was an office for the Lorain Police Department.
Stammitti is a Lorain High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy where he spent three years on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, which held about 5,000 sailors, and another year aboard the destroyer USS Johnson, which held about 300.
