A large scale COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Grand Rapids is prepared to give shots to tens of thousands of people each day, but current supply is limiting that reality.
The clinic held at DeVos Place is the largest in the region and is situated in a county that s lost over 600 people to the virus. State health officials have said the goal is to have one mass vaccination site per emergency preparedness region, but the state is not receiving enough vaccine to meet the demand.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Kent County is set to pay $12,000 a day for DeVos Place to operate as a COVID-19 vaccination site.
The owner of the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids is frustrated with the Kent County Health Department. He says he offered to host the COVID-19 vaccine clinic for free.
âTaking off my building owner hat and putting on my taxpayer hat finding out that theyâre paying $12,000 a day or $360,000 for one month to use a portion of the building down there.itâs frustrating to me,â says DeltaPlex Owner Joel Langlois.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI West Michigan residents eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine will soon have a new place to get a dose.
A large-scale clinic at DeVos Place convention center in downtown Grand Rapids is scheduled to open Monday as part of a partnership between the Kent County Health Department, Spectrum Health and Mercy Health Saint Mary’s.
Initially, the clinic will have roughly 7,200 doses of the vaccine to distribute starting next week, with the goal of eventually ramping up to 20,000 doses a day. However, with the vaccine in high-demand and short-supply, it’s unclear when the clinic will be able to reach that goal.
