MUMBAI: A majority of Covid cases in the city are coming from high-rises at four to five wards where residents have been out for social gatherings or have travelled to local tourist destinations, the BMC has found. On Sunday, the city reported 364 cases, taking the overall Covid tally to 7,34,118. Mumbai’s daily detection has gone under 500 for the past ten days.
Civic authorities have found that slums or other densely populated areas are hardly contributing to new cases. Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said that wards like K-West (Andheri-West, Vile Parle, Juhu), H-West (Bandra, Khar), S (Vikhroli, Bhandup) and R-Central (Borivli) are the leading contributors. “During contact tracing, we find that people have either been at a social function or travelled to destinations such as Lonavla,” he said.
