California’s Capitol remained under unprecedented security in the days leading to President Joe Biden’s inauguration because of fears of civil unrest, but except for a few scattered protests, the number of security personnel far outnumbered participants. The state spent some $19 million for a week’s worth of high security after a mob of insurgents loyal to Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol and left the nation on edge. A day before the inauguration, California lawmakers convened sessions afternoon inside the state Senate and Assembly chambers and allowed in a limited number of the media and public. New Stockton Democratic Assemblyman Carlos Villapudua said working behind a chain-link fence was definitely new to everyone.

SJ supervisors raise concerns after chaotic mass vaccination event

Miller said she was “bombarded” with messages from neighbors and friends who were able to get vaccinated at the event. County staff conceded they needed better vetting and a registration system in place during future events “(so that) only people with appointments get vaccinated unless we have excess doses,” said Greg Diederich, the county’s director of Health Care Services. “Unfortunately, word got out, and it wasn’t our intent to hold an event that had not been publicly advertised and shared with everyone,” county Public Health Officer Dr. Maggie Park said. “Moving forward, my plan is that I’d like to only release vaccine to mass vaccination events only when there’s a registration in place. I don’t want 75-year-olds, 80-year-olds, sitting in a car for hours, or standing or camping outside when there could be an appointment.”
