Punjab Police went through a massive reshuffle during 2020 as hundreds of policemen from the rank of Inspector General of Police to constable rank were transferred or surrendered before the Establishment Division.
A few of the notable transfers included former IGP Shoib Dastaghir, former CCPO BA Nasir, former CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed, DIG Shehzada Sultan, SSP Liaqat Malik, SSP Zeeshan Asghar, SP Asim Iftikhar, SP Anoush Masood Chaudhry.
The first major reshuffle in 2020 was made on April 14. At least six additional inspector generals (add IGs), two Regional Police Officers (RPOs), 13 deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and two senior superintendents of police (SSPs) were transferred and posted. The attention and energies of Punjab Police were focused on helping curbing the Covid-19 pandemic during most of the past year. However, the department witnessed rows of an unprecedented nature among its most senior officers after DIG Umar Sheikh took charge as Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO).
Since the appointment of the CCPO, an IGP, a DIG, an SSP and an SP have been transferred after conflicts with him. Besides, about 50 officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) signed a declaration in support of then IGP Shoaib Dastagir.

Policing in the wake of the global pandemic Covid-19 was the first challenge of its kind for Lahore police in their history.
The police in the metropolis lost four officials, while as many as 508 contracted the disease. However, the department appears as ill-prepared to protect its personnel from the infection as it was nine months back.
As the government announced lockdowns to counter the onslaught of the pandemic, it put the police in central position to cope with the crisis after the medical community. World Health Organisation (WHO) had suggested social distancing as the most effective tool to stop the pandemic from spreading and countries across the world moved for shutting down most sectors to ensure that people stay home.

LAHORE: Another conflict between Lahore CCPO Umar Shoaib Sheikh and SSP Investigations Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani took place during a meeting Tuesday. The top brass of Lahore Police had gathered to deliberate upon the strategy regarding the PDM Jalsa in Lahore. During the meeting, SSP Investigations Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani had an exchange of hot words with the CCPO over the role and matters of investigations. The CCPO hurled harsh words at Qaisrani. He was frustrated by the behaviour. Other senior police officers intervened and tried to pacify the situation. Dejected by the attitude, SSP Investigations left the meeting. Earlier, an incident occurred between former SP CIA Asim Iftikhar and the CCPO and later he was transferred. Similar dispute also took place with former SSP Admin Liaqat Malik after the CCPO passed harsh comments against him.
