With Palm Beach Mayor Gail Coniglio announcing Dec. 30 she will not be seeking a sixth term after serving as mayor since 2011, it’s time to look back at some of the people who occupied that office before her.
Coniglio is the 16th mayor of the town, which was incorporated in 1911. While the mayor only has the right to vote to break a tie vote on any ordinance, resolution or ordinance, the mayor also has veto powers. The mayor is recognized as the head of the town government for ceremonial and other purposes and acts as an ombudsman to investigate and report the residents’ concerns to the council.
Town Council member and former council president Danielle Moore announced Wednesday she will be running for mayor in the March 9 town elections.
The Town Clerk s Office confirmed Moore filed the required paperwork Wednesday morning and at the moment, remains unopposed.
Moore filed shortly after Mayor Gail Coniglio announced Wednesday morning that she would not be seeking another term and supported Moore in her upcoming bid for mayor. It is my privilege to pass the mayoral mantle to Dani Moore for her continued leadership. She has served for six years as Town Council member, [and is] ready to tackle all issues with her steady and balanced approach to problem solving, Coniglio s email said.
