Suspect remains at large after shots fired in road rage incident Salina police and the Saline County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a road rage incident at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday, in which shots were fired at another vehicle in the area of Crawford Street and Ohio Street.   While police officers were speaking with the victim’s vehicle, the suspect’s vehicle drove past and was later spotted near Ohio and Elm Street. When law enforcement officials tried to apprehend the vehicle, it fled north on Ohio and turned east onto Circle Drive near Lakewood Middle School.  

Lakewood bond issue for new school defeated again

Newark Advocate HEBRON - Lakewood Local School District officials came away disappointed yet again Tuesday night, when a bond issue to build a new elementary school came up short for a fifth consecutive time at the ballot box. This is disappointing, but I m most disappointed for our students and staff, superintendent Dr. Mark Gleichauf said. A lot of people put a lot work and sweat into the bond issue. This is where we are, Lakewood Board of Education president Brittany Misner said. I m disappointed, but I was confident we developed a good plan for our community. Unfortunately, we could not provide our students and teachers with what they deserve.

Get your glow on : Big Brothers Big Sisters brings back race series Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina’s Glow & Snow Fun Run Series will return for its fourth year, starting with Saturday’s Glow in the Park Fun Run.   After being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the fundraising series will be back in full effect.   BBBS CEO Amanda Otto expects around 500 participants to show for Saturday s event. It begins at 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Lakewood Middle School and run through Lakewood Park.   “We weren’t really sure (about) bringing the Glow Run back, how receptive the community would be, coming out of COVID and all that,” Otto said. “We’ve had great feedback – participants are excited, sponsors are excited that we’re bringing the series back.  

Salina USD 305 announces virtual school principal

Salina USD 305 announces virtual school principal The Salina Journal Salina Public Schools has selected Tracy Hutton as the Virtual School Principal effective July 1, 2021. An educator with 21 years of experience, of which the past 14 were at USD 305, Hutton most recently served for five years as career and life planning teacher at Lakewood Middle School. While at Lakewood she was a member of the Restorative Discipline Leadership Team. Prior to that she worked for nine years as a district curriculum technologist, focusing on K-12 technology leadership, staff development, and instructional strategies. The new virtual school is being created to address the interest in online learning which surfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some students found success in a flexible, virtual classroom and wish to continue this style of learning. Some families prefer virtual learning in light of the global pandemic.

Licking County teachers receive You Made A Difference awards

Newark Advocate NEWARK - COVID-19 has had a major effect on the 2020-21 school year, for students, educators and parents alike. The pandemic has forced an adaptive learning environment, which has created challenges. But teachers have risen up and still positively impacted their students, sometimes in ways they don t even realize. For the 22nd consecutive year, the Coughlin Automotive Group has decided to honor some of those teachers with its You Made A Difference awards. To date, Coughlin has provided over $140,000 for the awards program, which honors a teacher in each of Licking County s 10 public school districts, plus C-TEC, Licking County Educational Service Center and Newark Catholic.
