WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - When it comes to the sale of recreational marijuana in Lewis County, residents are split down the middle.
Nearly 43 percent support it and 43 percent oppose it. But what if farmers could grow pot?
“People are way more saying ‘yeah we support that,’” Joel LaLone said. “That was interesting to see.”
LaLone is research director at Jefferson Community College’s Center for Community Studies. The center’s 50 students conducted the 2020 Lewis County survey virtually.
LOWVILLE â Thereâs no consensus among Lewis County residents about allowing people to smoke marijuana legally, but the majority are convinced farmers should be able to grow it and get a piece of the financial pie legalization can provide.
At least thatâs what the 14th annual Lewis County Survey of the Community performed by the Center for Community Studies at Jefferson Community College found, and since the survey takers also determined âpolling is not broken,â itâs true.
âOnce every four years we get a chance to test: âIs our methodology working?ââ Center Research Director Joel LaLone said while presenting survey results to the Lewis County Board of Legislators before their virtual March meeting Tuesday afternoon.
