On February 23, 1945, during the battle for Iwo Jima, U.S. Marines raised a flag atop Mount Suribachi. It was taken down, and a second flag was raised. Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal captured this second flag-raising. Now part of U.S. Navy records, it is one of the most famous war photographs in U.S. history. Armour Regiment commissions Oppong Peprah Block The 153 Armour Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces on Friday commissioned a 10- unit apartment block, named after Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, Chief of Army Staff, to augment accommodation needs of the Army. The “Oppong Peprah Block” Golden Jubilee project, situated at the Gondar Barracks, was solely funded and constructed by Mr Noble John Watson Otumfuo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mayfair Estates Limited, at a cost of GH¢1,500,000.00. Mr Otumfuo said the block was named after Major General Peprah because of his selfless devotion to the welfare of the soldiers and the Ghana Armed Forces in general.
