Louie Gallo, an erudite and passionate Swampscott historian whose encyclopedic knowledge of town history made him a local fixture, died in a house fire in Saugus on Saturday morning. He was 78.
“Considered our town historian, he was a fountain of knowledge, a well-known, well-respected and larger-than-life character,” Angela Warren Ippolito, a former Swampscott Historical Commission member, told The Swampscott Reporter on Sunday morning. “He was my friend and colleague for many years, and I am devastated that he was a victim of such a tragedy.
Elderly siblings die in Saugus housefire

First responders are investigating a house fire that started early Saturday morning in Saugus and left two elderly siblings dead, according to the Advertiser s news partner WCVB.
Saugus Deputy Fire Chief Tom D Eon Jr. said crews received a call about the fire at 16 Richard St. at approximately 5:40 a.m.
Fire crews encountered heavy flames on the front porch when they arrived at the home and received reports that two elderly people were trapped inside, according to D Eon.
D Eon said one of the victims, who was found on the first floor at the front of the home, died in the fire.
