Entergy has been directed by the Mid-Continent System Operator to initiate rolling power outages for some customers in southwest Louisiana.
Entergy Louisiana Vice President of Distribtuion Operations John Hawkins said the blackouts are due to this historic winter storm and freeze.
“This is all due to the extreme cold temperatures and with our load forecasts they have reached an all-time peak for us,” said Hawkins.
MISO is in charge of the power grid for the region.
It’s a drastic move but Hawkins said these record low temperatures have forced their hand.
“This is done as a last resort to prevent more extensive prolonged power outages that could severly effect the reliability of the power grid,” said Hawkins.
