UK should push companies to boycott Beijing Olympics over labor abuses, MPs say

LONDON Britain should take a much tougher stance on trade with China through import bans to guard against forced labor, and should urge its firms to boycott advertising at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, according to a new report by U.K. lawmakers. This should extend to financially sanctioning companies that knowingly do business with Chinese firms tied to human rights violations in their supply chains, MPs on the cross-party foreign affairs committee say. “If we choose not to, we’re nesting the dragon deeper and deeper into our national life,” said Tom Tugendhat, Conservative chair of the committee. The British public has, he said, an expectation that Britain will stand up for “defense of the rule of law” and “fair competition in trade.”

imprisonment...

Throughout the ages, criminal activities in society have been punished by the ruling entity of such societies with various degree of justice.   The laws are sometimes ambiguous and criminals are adept at becoming the lawmakers or rulers themselves. The US prison population is quite large compare to other countries. In some countries, the death penalty is still used for crime against the state , even if the crime is as petty as not to follow the religious edict of such nation. The history of convicts is full of unfair treatment of people and of fabricated conviction. The styles of modern imprisonment are differing in countries, and much have the same purpose: make the convicted people suffer. The case of Julian Assange is special in this regard. He hasn t been convicted of any crimes, except expose the truth.
