A man accused of trying to buy a child in Corbin has pleaded not guilty in federal court. Ronnie Lou Helton appeared for arraignment in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky and entered a not guilty plea on a federal kidnapping charge. The boy’s grandmother told police back in April that Helton approached the boy to help him over a fence and then offered them $1000.00 for him. The grandmother told police she yelled at Helton to let the boy go and the child ran back, hiding behind her boyfriend. A jury trial is scheduled for July 27th, 2021 at the federal courthouse in London. If convicted, Helton would spend up to 20 years in prison, $250,000 or less fine and up to three years of probation.

CORBIN â A Corbin man who has been accused of attempting to kidnap and then offering $1,000 for a toddler is now facing federal charges.
Ronnie Lou Helton, 73, of Corbin, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court in London Friday. The indictment says Helton attempted to kidnap, abduct, seize, confine, and carry away another person for the purpose of assault using a means of interstate commerce, a red Pontiac sedan.
Helton must appear in person in federal court at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, for arraignment.
Helton was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor and promoting human trafficking of a victim under 18 years of age after the Corbin Police Department were called to a residence on Gordon Hill Pike on the evening of April 7.

Ronnie Lou Helton, 73, of Corbin, was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor and promoting human trafficking of a victim under 18 years of age after the Corbin Police Department were called to a residence on Gordon Hill Pike on Wednesday evening.
Kristy Baker, the childâs grandmother, reported to police that a male subject, later identified as Helton, walked over to where he 3-year-old grandchild was playing on a trailer and began attempting to assist him to the other side of the fence by holding his hand and leading him to where the trailer sloped higher up on the fence.
