ABC 10/CW5 The City of Escanaba is asking the community to help imagine the future of the Ludington Street Corridor. The community can vote on projects they feel will enhance Ludington Street.  MML’s Bridge Builders Main Street Microgrants’ Competition, called Resilient Ludington Street, will champion four winning projects to receive $5,000 dollars that will breathe life into Escanaba’s new downtown. In other words, Escanaba wants the community to be the co-creators of improvements and upgrades thru voting. Volunteers are planning to clean up the downtown and other parts of the city during the annual Esky Cleanup May 17-22. The event has been held for nearly a decade. ESCANABA For nearly a decade, residents of Escanaba have helped clean up Ludington Street and beyond as part of a popular local event. With Esky Cleanup coming up May 17-22, the event’s organizers – and its founder, Todd Beauchamp – are looking back at its history. At the time Esky Cleanup was created, Beauchamp owned U.P. PC Repair on Ludington Street. The business’ office was located on the street’s 1200 block, near Ferdinand’s Mexican Restaurant.

Wisconsin Leaders Issue Grant to Support Marine Facility in Marinette Aerial view of Fincantieri Marinette Marine (SteelGuru Business News via YouTube) Wisconsin officials announced May 6 that $1 million in grant funding has been awarded to support infrastructure at a shipbuilding facility in Marinette. Located in northeast Wisconsin, Marinette toes into Green Bay and sits about 65 miles north of the city of the same name. The funding, approved by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, will support the reconstruction of Ludington Street to provide better access to Fincantieri Marinette Marine. Founded in 1942, the marine started with a contract to build five wooden barges and has since grown into a company that has designed and constructed approximately 1,500 vessels. The total cost of the Ludington Street project is $2.6 million.

State Grant Means Better Access To Marinette Marine

By Robert Kennedy May 6, 2021 9:09 AM MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – A state grant will help Marinette Marine fulfill its contract with the U.S. Navy. The $1 million grant, approved by WisDOT, will support a $2.6 million reconstruction of Ludington Street in Marinette that will provide better access to the shipbuilding facility. Marinette Marine recently received a $795 million contract to build the first of up to 10 new frigates for the U.S. Navy. If all 10 frigates are built, the contract with the US Navy could be worth up to $5.6 billion. “We are proud to be partners with Fincantieri and the city of Marinette in this tremendous project, which not only will create jobs and stimulate the local economy but will also show the world the type of high-quality and technologically advanced products that are made right here in Wisconsin,” Gov. Tony Evers said.
