The Scott House. (HCP file photo) After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the second annual Highland County Pioneer Day in 2020, the Highland County Historical Society has announced plans to bring the event back next month.
The event, a celebration of Highland Country history, is scheduled for Aug. 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Scott House on West Main Street in Hillsboro. This year’s Pioneer Day will be chaired by Vicki Knauff and John Willis.
The Society held the first Pioneer Day in 2019, in honor of the 175th anniversary of the Scott House Mansion and the Highland House Museum. Although the Society initially planned to hold a socially distanced version of Pioneer Day in 2020, they later canceled the event due to logistics related to the pandemic.
