A West Valley man accused of shooting another man in the face outside of a South Salt Lake convenience store in December was charged Thursday.
Christopher Lee Barros, 33, was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Because prosecutors say Barros is a habitual violent offender, the charges were increased to first-degree felonies. He was also charged with obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.
The incident happened on Dec. 4 just after 6:30 a.m. inside a Dodge Durango in the parking lot at Maverik, 3260 S. West Temple.
Onslow County Republicans won big in the 2020 general election. Outside of losing some of the regional and national seats, voters in the county went straight ticket on the ballots, which also caused a bit of an uproar after the results were released.
Now that Onslow has been painted red again, where does the party go from here? For starters, electing a new board of volunteers.
During the Onslow Republican Convention on Saturday, March 6, a new executive board was elected to serve the Onslow GOP for the next two years.
Peyton Foster, secretary (defeated Christy Lopez), Melinda Highers, chairman (defeated Cynthia Lacorte), Bob Roupe, vice-chair (defeated Christine Lee-Card), Lori Ready-Digiovanni, treasurer (defeated Roy Herrick Jr.) and Josh Foley, assistant treasurer (defeated Al Carpenter). Jerry Morse ran for second vice-chair and William Argenbright ran for parliamentarian with Lacorte s team but was also defeated.
SOUTH SALT LAKE I should just jack you, Christoper Lee Barros told another man shortly before shooting him in the face, according to police.
South Salt Lake police announced Tuesday that Barros had been arrested in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of gas station on Dec. 4.
On Dec. 4, just after 6:30 a.m., Barros and two others were inside a Dodge Durango in the parking lot at Maverik, 3260 S. West Temple, when Barros and a man in his late 20s got into a confrontation over an undisclosed issue, according to a police affidavit.
Barros, 33, told the victim he should just jack him and then swung his left fist while holding the gun toward the victim s head. The gun discharged into the victim s face, causing severe injuries to his mouth, tongue, teeth and jaw, the affidavit states.
The Onslow County Republican Party announced late Wednesday night their nomination for who would replace Former Commissioner William Shanahan on the Board of Commissioners after he stepped down on Dec. 8 in preparation for transitioning to his new judicial duties as a District Court Judge.
Mark Price, who was also formerly on BOC, was nominated by the the party s executive committee as their choice to fill the vacant seat. The party has 30 days to forward the board their recommendation.
Onslow GOP Chairwoman Lee Barrows was unable to be reached for comment early Thursday morning, however she indicated on Monday that the party will submit the letter to the BOC immediately after the vote of the executive committee.
