All crew members of South Korea’s virus-hit Cheonghae naval unit returned home from Africa on Tuesday on KC-330 Cygnus multirole tanker airplanes after cutting short their overseas mission following a mass COVID-19 outbreak.
This is the first time that all the members of an overseas contingent have abandoned their mission and returned home due to an infectious disease. With 10 months to go before the March 9 presidential election, 32.5% say Yoon Seok-youl would be a good president. Gyeonggi Province Gov. Lee Jae-myung ranked second with 25.1%, while former Democratic Party (DP) chief Lee Nak-yon ranked third with 11.2% in the latest poll. Independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo with 7.0%, People Party chairman Ahn Cheol-soo with 5.0%, and former prime minister Chung Sye-kyun with 4.6% followed. Former People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Yoo Seung-min gained 2.5% and former justice minister Choo Mi-ae won 2.2%.
The poll was conducted on 1,013 voters nationwide on May 3 by pollster Realmeter. The ruling DP, which established its new leadership during the party’s congress held on May 2, will hold its primary around July and August.
