The UAlbany Great Danes are headed back to the America East title game for the first time since 2018 after taking down the UMBC Retrievers 14-12.
While the Danes rolled early and took a commanding 7-1 lead late in the first quarter, the top-seeded Retrievers weren’t going down that easy. UMBC went on a 6-1 run from the 1:04 mark in the first through the 2:42 mark in the third to cut the Albany lead to 8-7.
Albany veered back on course and used a three-goal run of their own to pull ahead 11-7 with 46 seconds left in the third. However, UMBC was able to use a four-goal run to tie things up at 11 with 9:52 remaining in regulation. Albany’s Kyle Casey and UMBC’s Brandon Galloway traded goals midway through the fourth before two straight from Corey Yunker and Ron John put this one away and sealed the win for the Danes.

Fast starts have been hard to come by for the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team this season.
Head coach Scott Marr has even taken it down to the granular level of pre-game music, telling his players to shed the earbuds and headphones to get more in tune with their teammates.
He got what he wanted on Thursday, and also what the Great Danes needed at the end, as UAlbany scored two goals in the final 2:27 to beat UMBC 14-12 in the semifinals of the America East tournament in Catonsville, Maryland.

ALBANY Coming off a 12-day break, the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team did exactly what it needed to Saturday against NJIT to set the team up for the last week of the regular season and results around the rest of the America East on Saturday have the Great Danes heading into their final two games with their chances at securing the top seed for the conference tournament notably improved.

ALBANY Fun’s over for the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team.
The Great Danes grabbed footballs instead of sticks when they took to the practice field last Friday for an hour and a half of spirited two-hand touch, then got the weekend off to play golf some performing well, others “personally, not that great,” senior attack Ron John said, referring to himself with a laugh.
But fun time is over, and crunch time has started for UAlbany, with three games in eight days to close the regular season, by virtue of the big rematch game at Vermont having been postponed from April 16 to April 28.

That’s what happened to Stephen Rehfuss in Syracuse’s 13-8 win over UAlbany last Thursday, and these weren’t empty calorie stats, either. He scored the game’s first two goals and then, with the game tied 4-4, he assisted on Cuse’s next two goals to make it 6-4. The Orange scored five of the next six goals to build an 11-6 lead with 5:00 to play in the third and then cruised to victory.
Stephen Rehfuss was not an IL Preseason Media All-American. When we spotlighted Syracuse s returning fifth-years in our January issue, the focus was on Jamie Trimboli and Drake Porter (granted, there were extenuating circumstances around that decision). Rehfuss had 132 points in 50 games for Syracuse heading into this season. At 6-0, 183 lbs., able to play midfield or attack and I don t know which hand he is, what about the way he was perceived prevented him from being a star?
