Steffin Rees pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday for killing Preston Pellerin on Nov. 15, 2019 on Cedar Street. The Crown is expected to seek a sentence of 15 years, in addition to enhanced parole ineligibility.

Assistant Crown attorney Lindsey Santerre shared the agreed statement of facts. (Robert Beckett represented Rees).
As the court heard, Rees and Pellerin knew each other when they lived together in the same group home. They were friends for many years and “shard a brotherly bond,” Santerre told the court.
But they had a falling out in the weeks leading up to Pellerin’s death.

Michael Young was an easy-going person who was everybody’s friend, a Sudbury court heard Tuesday.
“Mike was a quiet, gentle man who loved music, gardening and all animals,” said stepmother Beverly Moore Young, in her victim impact statement read in by assistant Crown attorney Lindsey Santerre via Zoom link at the sentencing of Michael Marois.
