As the nation observes the first anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, we recognize that he is a historic figure whose hideous death was not in vain.
The video of his killing that was repeatedly seen throughout the world was a damning indictment of the worst in policing and demonstrated that a country with great values and ideals has not yet reached its goal of equality. We also recognize how many similar deaths have taken place without accompanying video, killings that have been whitewashed by law enforcement officers who provided false accounts of a suspectâs cause of death.
