Where on Kanner are commercial developments comparable to Costco?
I drove up Willoughby Boulevard in Stuart today. I was careful to observe the roadsides. (I had read that this was already an industrial zone and that Costco would have no important impact on the road from Costco to Willoughby.). I suggest you all do the same.
As far as Kanner Highway is concerned, where are all the large commercial developments that are comparable to this project?
Of course this is a case of NIMBY. Why not? As Stuart expands, and it’s a fact that it will, why use an already established low-density small business area to do so? Kanner Highway, while expanded, has never been an industrial zone. Tell me how Costco will not change that.

Our quality of life in Stuart cannot handle increased population density
Where is the outrage from the residents of the city of Stuart and the surrounding unincorporated Martin County? The population density explosion in our small city is about to cripple us.
The city of Stuart in the past year has approved nine multi-family projects, adding a total of 1,318 multi-family units to our small city. The current population of Stuart is 16,100. Page 7 of the city of Stuart’s comprehensive plan, Table 1-2 Population Projections, has as follows: Year 2025 population 17,490, year 2035 population 19,064. Using an industry factor of 2.6 persons per unit, these already approved 1,318 units will increase the population of Stuart by 3,427 increasing the city s population to 19,527, exceeding our projected population of 2035.
