The dominant team in the WHL’s Central Division during the 2020-21 season wrapped up their campaign in style on Thursday night. The Edmonton Oil Kings finished off their campaign with an impressive 20-2-0-1 mark at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat as they came away with a 3-0 shutout over the Medicine Hat Tigers. While the Oil Kings were able to capture their third straight Central Division title, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they wouldn’t be able to showcase their squad in the playoffs for the second straight spring after reaching the Eastern Conference in 2019 before falling to the Prince Albert Raiders. ....
Prince Albert Daily Herald Moe, Nachbaur and Paddock wrap up WHL careers The strangest season in Prince Albert Raiders history concluded on Wednesday night with one of the most bizarre contests the team has ever taken part in. With the team holding a 5-3 lead over the Swift Current Broncos at the 8:01 mark of the third period, Raiders netminder Max Paddock was given a snow shower by Broncos forward Josh Davies and proceeded to pummel him in the face as both players were down in the crease during a post-whistle scrum. As a result of the play, Davies was given a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, but Paddock was given a five-minute match penalty and a game misconduct for what the officials deemed as an attempt to injure. ....

The Prince Albert Raiders found out firsthand why the Winnipeg Ice have one of the best offences in the Western Hockey League during the shortened 2020-21 campaign. In the penultimate game for both sides in the East Division hub at the Brandt Centre, the Raiders saw a 3-1 third period lead with 11 minutes to go disappear as the Ice scored a trifecta of goals in a nearly six-minute stretch on their way to a 4-3 triumph. ....
WHL Roundup: Cole Nagy hat trick leads Broncos over Warriors 4-2 April 25, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail REGINA - Three goals by Cole Nagy, including the game-winner in the third period, gave the Swift Current Broncos a 4-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League play on Sunday. Nagy put Swift Current (6-16-1) ahead 2-1 in the second period and made it 3-2 in the third before completing his hat trick with an empty-net goal. Raphael Pelletier also scored for the Broncos, who have won two in a row. Riley Crane and Cole Jordan found the back of the net for Moose Jaw (8-13-2), who have lost three straight and seven of their last eight. ....
WHL Roundup: Wheat Kings come from behind to defeat Raiders 5-4 in OT April 24, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail REGINA - Braden Schneider scored 2:30 into overtime to secure Brandon s come-from-behind victory over Prince Albert on Saturday in Western Hockey League play. The Wheat Kings (17-3-2-0) were behind 4-3 with time winding down in the third period when Ben McCartney netted the equalizer with 5:21 to play. Schneider scored the OT winner exactly midway through the extra frame. It was the second time in a week Schneider was the overtime hero after sinking the Winnipeg Ice last Sunday. Lynden McCallum scored twice for Brandon and Nate Danielson had three assists. ....
